Mitchell C. Bailin’s Biography

Among other achievements he has instituted a series of innovative wellness programs and services for law students, ranging from education campaigns around law students’ susceptibility to depression and substance abuse to a “Safety Net” of resources for students in distress or with serious disabilities. He also has spearheaded Georgetown’s pioneering efforts to teach resilience as a core professional competency, including the nationally-recognized Lawyers in Balance program which encourages students to incorporate mindfulness and meditation into their professional and personal lives. Prior to coming to Georgetown, Dean Bailin practiced in the litigation department at Palmer & Dodge LLP in Boston, where he focused on the representation of schools and colleges. He also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Chief Justice Margaret H. Marshall of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. Dean Bailin is a graduate of Yale Law School and also holds an A.B. from Harvard University and an M.St. from Oxford University.
