With finances often at the bottom line of lawyer well-being, lawyers with student loan debt are invited to join a new pilot program from the Massachusetts SJC Standing Committee on Lawyer Well-Being and AccessLex Institute.

Seeking to alleviate stress around student loan repayment, the Massachusetts SJC Standing Committee recently announced a new pilot program:

“We have partnered with the nonprofit, AccessLex, to provide education, resources, and coaching specifically to Massachusetts attorneys. The program will include webinar options, focusing on loan repayment, public service loan forgiveness, and financial management, as well as one-on-one coaching sessions with loan repayment and financial experts.”

If you are interested in participating or receiving more information, sign up on the SJC Lawyer Well-Being website.

A recent study by the American Bar Association documents the personal impacts of the financial hardship that student loan debt creates. The 2020 ABA YLD Law School Student Loan Debt Survey Report “examines the issues at the heart of the student loan crisis, and offers recommendations.” New lawyers put off kids and home ownership due to an average of $160,000 in student loan debt, as a recent Law.com headline observes. Student loans are also a source of stress, anxiety, and depression for the 1,000 attorneys surveyed, as another Law.com headline notes.
